NEVER FORGET

Posted by Sean on January 24, 2009

Have you heard about the trucker who has painted his cab and trailer with the names of all those who lost their lives on 9/11?

The trucker’s name is John Holmgren from Shafer , Minnesota. He has been ‘pulled over’ numerous times just so the troopers can get their picture taken with the truck.

Not Just an Anything…

Posted by Sean on January 23, 2009

“Are you the Doctor?”

“No. I’m just the Nurse.”

“I’m just a Nurse.”

Your ‘just an anything’ when ever you present yourself as JUST AN ANYTHING, be it a nurse or anything else. People perceive you as what you show them. Is there anything such as Just a Nurse or Just an HVAC&R technician. I know some people are just customers and others are people that we take care of; be it their health or their furnace. Was Da Vinci JUST a painter or was Einstein JUST a mathematician. Nursing may be your profession but you are way more than JUST A NURSE ———-

That was an email response by my father (who is an HVAC&R technician) when I told him about some of the blogosphere chatter about ‘just a nurse’.

Here are some of the recent blog posts concerning the statement ‘just a nurse’:

Wise words, from a wise man.

Thanks Dad.

The Pittsburgh Steelers Phone

Posted by Sean on January 23, 2009

John Madden was in New England to announce a football game one weekend when he noticed a special telephone near the Patriots’ bench.  He asked QB Brady what it was used for and was told it was a hotline to God.  John asked if he could use it. Brady replied, “Sure, but it will cost you $200.”  John scratched his head, then thought, what the heck, I could use some
help picking games.  He pulled out his wallet and paid $200.  John’s picks were perfect that week.

The next week, John was in Indianapolis when he noticed that same kind of phone on the Colts bench.  He asked what the telephone was for and Manning told him, “It’s a hotline to God, if you want to use it, it will cost you $500.”  Recalling the previous week, John pulled out his wallet and made the call.  John’s picks were perfect again that week.

Last weekend, John was in Pittsburgh when he noticed the same kind of telephone by the Steelers’ bench.  He asked Ben Roethlisberger, “Is that the hotline to God?”  Roethlisberger said, “Yes, and if you want to use it, it will cost you 50 cents.”  John looked incredulously at Roethlisberger and said, “Wait a second, I just paid $200 in New England and $500 in Indianapolis to use the same phone to God!  Why do the Steelers only charge 50 cents?”  Roethlisberger replied, “Because in Pittsburgh, it’s a local call…”

Welcome to God’s Country !

The Difference Between Men and Women?

Posted by Sean on January 23, 2009

NICKNAMES:

  • If Laura, Kate and Sarah go out for lunch, they will call each other Laura, Kate and  Sarah.
  • If Mike , Dave and John go out, they will affectionately refer to each other as Fat Boy, Godzilla and Four-eyes.

EATING OUT:

  • When the bill arrives, Mike , Dave and John will each throw in $20, even thou gh it’s only for $32.50.  None of them will have anything smaller and none will actually admit they want change back.
  • When the girls get their bill, out come the pocket calculators.

MONEY:

  • A man will pay $2 for a $1 item he needs.
  • A woman will pay $1 for a $2 item that she  doesn’t need but it’s on sale.

BATHROOMS:

  • A man has six items in his bathroom: toothbrush and toothpaste, shaving cream, razor, a bar of soap, and a  towel ..
  • The average number of items in the typical woman’s bathroom is 337.  A man would not be able to identify more than 20 of these  items.

ARGUMENTS:

  • A woman has the last word in any argument.
  • Anything a man says after that is the beginning of a new argument.

FUTURE:

  • A woman worries about the future until she gets a husband.
  • A man never worries about the future until he gets a wife.

SUCCESS:

  • A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can spend.
  • A successful woman is one who can find such a man.

MARRIAGE:

  • A woman marries a man expecting he will change, but he doesn’t.
  • A man marries a woman expecting that she won’t change, but she does. </ FONT>

DRESSING UP:

  • A woman will dress up to go shopping, water the plants, empty the trash, answer the phone, read a book, and get the mail.
  • A man will dress up for weddings and funerals.

NATURAL:

  • Men wake up as good-looking as they went to bed.
  • Women somehow deteriorate during the night.

OFFSPRING:

  • Ah, children. A woman knows all about her children. She knows about dentist appointments and romances, best friends, favorite foods, secret fears and hopes and dreams.
  • A man is vaguely aware of some short people living in the house.

THOUGHT FOR THE  DAY
A married man should forget his mistakes. There’s no use in two people remembering the same thing!

Yes, I know…

This is gonna get someone’s goat. (But I bet it makes you smile) J

If You Werent at the Inauguration. You Need to See This Photo.Photographer David Bergman was fortunate enough to have been given a photographer’s press pass for the inauguration of President Obama.

With a Gigapan Imager and his Canon G10 in hand, Bergman shot 220 images and spent more than six hours using the Gigapan software putting them altogether on his Macbook Pro.

The picture is above however the beauty of this comes from playing with the flash piece on Berman’s website, ideally in full-screen mode.

A pie chart depicting the information on the Internet. While most of it is serious, meaningful stuff, a tiny slice shows 'YouTube videos of people hurting themselves in amusing ways'. According to the chart, that's also what most people actually watch.

Looking For a Few Good Bloggers in Nursing

Posted by Sean on January 22, 2009

imageImage Source: Deviant Art

Are you a blogger?

Are you involved in the career of nursing?

Then this is all about YOU!

BLOG = short for weB LOG. We have all started a blog for many reasons. Some did it for personal validation, others wanted to use it as a therapeutic tool, and the majority just wanted their voice to be heard.

Nursing bloggers do just that and more. We use our blogs to share, to educate, to inform, to vent frustrations, and if anything shed a little bit more light on what that darn word ‘nursing’ is all about.

We’re out there. Spread across the blogosphere in so many different forms. Our blogging is equally as diverse as our career. There is no simple or straight answer to nursing, and there is no simple or straight answer to blogging about nursing! That’s what is so great about our messages, we come from many walks of the nursing path!

So many sharing so much. Our numbers are vast, but a thin spread can be so ineffective at getting our messages out there. There is something said about the power of focused energy. Don’t you think centralizing and corralling our efforts would give our voices such an amazing amount of leverage and power? What if we could all congregate in one place of the blogosphere to share our words and echo our voices loud enough for all to hear?

Guess what?

THERE IS

It’s called a Blog Carnival.

Kim’s blog Emergiblog has such a thing called Change of Shift! It’s a blog carnival for nurses. A blog carnival for bloggers from all walks of life along the path of nursing.

It’s a simple yet effective way of sharing your voice. There is no right or wrong. Are you blogging about nursing? Then be sure to participate! It’s that simple.

Do you have a blog (or two, or three) post you’d like to share? Here’s what you do:

You can formally submit your blog post here: The official Blog Carnival website

Or

You can email Kim over at Emergiblog directly : kmcallister-nine-one-one at yahoo.com (you can figure it out)

Here’s what’s great about a nursing blog carnival:

You get to share your voice and your blog content which means more traffic to YOUR blog

You get to meet and learn about other nursing bloggers

You have the chance to learn and grow with those who share your passion.

So stop on over to this weeks Change of Shift (CoS). And while you’re there look at the Change of Shift schedule. The next CoS is in two weeks and it will be hosted by Keith over at Digital Doorway.

Be sure to send Keith your blog submission!
