Exercising is Taxing, but Making it Taxable??

Posted by Sean on February 15, 2009

I was at the gym today. Minding my own business, doin’ my thang.. in my zone. As I was getting a paper towel to clean the equipment there was a ‘flyer’ taped to the dispenser.

Normally I just ignore the million-and-one advertisements that are pasted throughout the fitness center, but for some strange reason I actually read this one.

extending the sales tax to include health club membership dues and services”, is what the flyer read.

Confused

Say what?

It seems that certain state legislatures are making an attempt to include gym membership and dues as taxable revenue and/or services?

So, now bettering your health, or maintaining your health is something the government wants to charge you for?!

Being an obese nation is not enough? Those of us who make the effort to attain better health need to be ‘penalized’?

Here is more information on the issue: IHRSA – Get Active! Magazine

Oh, and it seems it’s only happening in certain states, mine being one of them. Angry

What’s next? REALLY?

Carpe Diem
