My Strong Medicine

The adventures of a male nurse navigating through life, staying fit, surviving the journey.

Strength

Posted by Sean on February 16, 2009

I started blogging (almost a year ago now) as a way of sharing. I think I posted an entry a while back that talked about how that took place. The short version of that story is I wanted to start ‘officially’ blogging, but I needed a name… or I needed a theme.

So I asked my wife. If you could choose one word to describe me what would it be. And without skipping a beat she said, ‘Strong’.

I laughed. “Ha-Ha, very funny”. “Seriously. What one word describes me?”

In my mind, I thought she was mocking me. Making fun of me being ‘athletic’. Poking fun at my ‘muscles’. We always joked that I was the ‘cheap labor’ of the family, since I was athletic, I did work out, and well I had physical strength.

My beautiful wife snapped back, “No. I AM serious”. “I’m not making fun of you, at least not this time” (She has an amazing talent for making me smile. I LOVE that about her)

“You are strong, you have physical strength. But you are also emotionally strong, mentally tough. You have the kind of strength that is personal.” “I mean c’mon. Think about all the SH*T you’ve been through, and yet you still are the most positive person I know.”

“SH*T like that can destroy a person, but look at you. You just keep going"

I’ve said it before, true strength is measured from the inside. And today I happily discovered more evidence of that kind of strength in the world.

I want to thank Craig Ballantyne for sharing the following on Twitter this evening:

The link took you to this video that asked the question: Are You Going to Finish Strong?

Here I learned about Nick Vujicic and his amazing story.

The next time you have a bad day. The next time you meet a challenge you think is too tough.

It’s not so much how you start (4 limbs or none), but how you finish.

Will you Finish Strong?

Thanks Nick. Thanks for the reality check.

Carpe Diem
