Simply astonishing work. How life-like these paintings are. I am always amazed at the amazing artistic abilities of others.
Especially since I have none.

I started blogging (almost a year ago now) as a way of sharing. I think I posted an entry a while back that talked about how that took place. The short version of that story is I wanted to start ‘officially’ blogging, but I needed a name… or I needed a theme.
So I asked my wife. If you could choose one word to describe me what would it be. And without skipping a beat she said, ‘Strong’.
I laughed. “Ha-Ha, very funny”. “Seriously. What one word describes me?”
In my mind, I thought she was mocking me. Making fun of me being ‘athletic’. Poking fun at my ‘muscles’. We always joked that I was the ‘cheap labor’ of the family, since I was athletic, I did work out, and well I had physical strength.
My beautiful wife snapped back, “No. I AM serious”. “I’m not making fun of you, at least not this time” (She has an amazing talent for making me smile. I LOVE that about her)
“You are strong, you have physical strength. But you are also emotionally strong, mentally tough. You have the kind of strength that is personal.” “I mean c’mon. Think about all the SH*T you’ve been through, and yet you still are the most positive person I know.”
“SH*T like that can destroy a person, but look at you. You just keep going"
I’ve said it before, true strength is measured from the inside. And today I happily discovered more evidence of that kind of strength in the world.
I want to thank Craig Ballantyne for sharing the following on Twitter this evening:
The link took you to this video that asked the question: Are You Going to Finish Strong?
Here I learned about Nick Vujicic and his amazing story.
The next time you have a bad day. The next time you meet a challenge you think is too tough.
It’s not so much how you start (4 limbs or none), but how you finish.
Will you Finish Strong?
Thanks Nick. Thanks for the reality check.

I had to work this weekend. So I didn’t get to spend ‘Love’ day with my beautiful wife. I did however plan ahead (yes, I’m trained well).
My wife received everything she asked for. She needed ‘refills’ on all her ‘smell-good’ shtuff. So Bath & Bodyworks got another sale from yours truly.
I can never get my wife just one thing. I like to spoil her with what I can, when I can. So whenever there is cause for gift-giving I always go overboard. Because frankly, she deserves it. She has to put up with me every day of her life.
So on top of the showering of ‘smell-good’ paraphernalia, I visited our local Hallmark store.
If you ever get the chance you really should visit Hallmark. In case you didn’t know, they have more than just cards. While you are there, check out the infamous Hoops & Yo-Yo merchandise. My wife loves them.
So I had to include a lil‘ something else:
Happy Valentine’s Day Angel.
Thanks for saying yes!

I was at the gym today. Minding my own business, doin’ my thang.. in my zone. As I was getting a paper towel to clean the equipment there was a ‘flyer’ taped to the dispenser.
Normally I just ignore the million-and-one advertisements that are pasted throughout the fitness center, but for some strange reason I actually read this one.
“extending the sales tax to include health club membership dues and services”, is what the flyer read.
![]()
Say what?
It seems that certain state legislatures are making an attempt to include gym membership and dues as taxable revenue and/or services?
So, now bettering your health, or maintaining your health is something the government wants to charge you for?!
Being an obese nation is not enough? Those of us who make the effort to attain better health need to be ‘penalized’?
Here is more information on the issue: IHRSA – Get Active! Magazine
Oh, and it seems it’s only happening in certain states, mine being one of them. ![]()
What’s next? REALLY?

I just read a couple articles on the nursing shortage and the stress a new graduate nurse has to endure. The reality of the overwhelming responsibility that a nurse has can be, and absolutely is overwhelming. In fact it’s down right BRAIN SCRAMBLING! (I had to steal that name from a fellow blogger. Thanks Caroline)
Being a nurse, surviving and/or even flourishing in the nursing world is not easy by any means. In fact it’s damn hard. Just ask my fellow blogger Caroline, or Kim.
But see, that’s just it. Nobody said it would be. A career in nursing is not for everyone. If it were easy, everyone would do it. The hard is what makes it great.
Nursing is still in my mind, by far the greatest career path you can choose, I’ve talked about it before. The options are limitless. I was just telling a fellow colleague last night, you could change the scenery (the job) you are doing as a nurse every 6 months and at the end of your career, you still would not have explored the vast number of job opportunities and options that exist for a nurse. If you remember, I’ve discussed some of the places you’ll meet a nurse. The only thing that limits you is your desire.
That’s why I can’t understand how new grads would quit? Yes, maybe quit your job and find a new avenue. But, quit being a nurse? Quit and leave the career all together???
I don’t know about you. But my RN license is something I’m damn proud of. I earned it. I busted my ass. I made many sacrifices to reach this point in my career. I think others would say the same thing.
After all you did, all you learned, and all you sacrificed, how could you even entertain the option of leaving nursing??
There are options.
I do hope any nurse that is at the end of their ‘rope’, and wants to quit there job will at least stay in the field of nursing. To do otherwise would simply limit your future.
To all my fellow colleagues out there. Thank you for doing what you do, and enduring what you have. Stay strong.

Yes, the obvious can be somewhat tough to handle. We nurses ARE overwhelmed. Yes, we nurses do get that "I want to quit" feeling QUITE often.
In the state of the nursing world, a shortage of nurses, is slowly turning into a shortage of time. Time needed to train, educate and properly orient those who are just entering our world.
Hitting the ground running and biting off more than you can chew is now the norm.
The question is, how much longer is this going to last.
Sometimes a passion for your career isn’t enough.
My hope is that we can nurture our newest additions to the world of nursing so that they won’t want to quit.
