Another Reason Passwords Suck

Posted by Sean on February 5, 2009

I never even thought about this! I know at work we have a TON of passwords for all the different programs we use. And having to remember them all gets quite exhaustive.
This just re-emphasizes: NEVER SHARE YOUR PASSWORD.

Tweeting with the Tweetvisor

Posted by Sean on February 3, 2009

It’s not secret. I’m a little bit of a Twitter addict. Just ask my wife. Blushing

Given the chance, I’d be sending ‘Tweets’ every chance I got. Luckily unfortunately the nature of my job does not allow for me to have my BlackBerry in hand while working. Otherwise I’d be a Twittering Nurse fool.

Most of my Twitter activity is done in front of my computer. And in most cases I do it before and/or after a typical day for me. Which includes my job, the gym, my family, and anything else that contributes to my human condition.

The hardest part about using Twitter (in my humble opinion) is the ‘catch-up’ factor.

Yeah, you’re not active on Twitter for an extended amount of time. Whether 1 hour or 1 day, you usually do some reverse timeline scrolling to figure out what the chatter is about.

Up until now, that has been a real annoyance for me. TweetDeck is my staple of Twitter-life. I use and abuse all its robust qualities. But, it never could help me out with my ‘catch-up’. I mean I get a pretty long stream of tweets to scroll through, but it takes a tad bit of effort to follow any single conversations.

Enter Tweetvisor

Tweetvisor has the ONE thing I have been looking for that is easy enough to utilize. Parsed @reply conversation threads.

image

When I am looking at the Tweetvisor main screen I can actually determine who is talking with who and what they are talking about! Party

That way, if I want to chime in about the conversation I won’t accidently miss a piece of the conversation.

Tweetvisor is a purely browser based application, unlike TweetDeck which is a desktop application. (Good and bad for both)

The top of the Tweetvisor screen is a great navigation tool for finding specific conversation threads, or specific types of tweets. Along the sides you have your @replies and your Direct Messages respectively.

Tweetvisor also offers some cool search features if your interested in a specific topic or something from a specific user.

It’s a fairly new application that is still growing. The Tweetvisor team has been very attentive to feedback given via Twitter. Everything from including shortened URL capability, to including Twitter profile links.

I use Tweetvisor and TweetDeck interchangeably. I don’t foresee eliminating one over the other at this point. My love for TweetDeck hasn’t changed, and Tweetvisor’s few but likable qualities aren’t going to lead me in another direction.

Keep on Tweetin’!

My Social Media-dentity

Posted by Sean on February 2, 2009

Navigating through the blogosphere and everything Web 2.0 means creating and maintaining a social presence. Whether good or bad, direct or indirect, we have all established our own online identity. Ergo: Social Media

Up until recently I have tried and trashed a series of ‘lifestream’ applications that I thought would help communicate my online activity. Everything from Tumblr, Profilactic, to my most recent adventure with FriendFeed. The first two adventures flopped almost immediately out the gate due to the lack of social interest. FriendFeed also failed to ‘deliver’ my presence, but instead took on a life of it’s own.

I now use FriendFeed as a type of ‘sharing’ tool. It is a great tool for distributing and gathering all types of media information. Not only within the FriendFeed network and application, but having the ability to update via other services (more specifically Twitter) is a great way to communicate throughout the limbs of social media.

But I digress.

As I said before recently I discovered retaggr. A great tool for communicating my online activity and sharing my online social media lifestream that not only is efficient but also very adaptive and congruent with most other social media circles and Web 2.0 applications.

It offers a one-stop-shop profile page that serves as a communication base for ANYTHING Web 2.0. image

Once you set up your account, the rest is done automatically.

Everything that you do, is recorded and communicated through your retaggr profile page.

Convenient and seamlessly integrated with Java enabled menus and drop down lists.

It has other features that I love. The profile card (badges) are awesome. You can create a badge that will list all of your social media services in the form of icons as well as display your ‘updates’ from your choice of micro-blogging services ( I use Twitter)

image

In addition to the stand alone badge, you have widgets you can use for your website, webpage’s and blog’s. Here is the one I use on my blog (it’s on my sidebar).

The last piece of juicy information that I just discovered the other day is the ‘contact me’ function.

image

image

Everyone has a contact form or contact page and even some have ‘landing pages’ so that someone who crosses your path on their journey through the inter-blogo-scope they can find you and send you an email if they so desire.

Up until now, I thought we had to create a ‘form’ or redirect them to a webpage via a web link. Retaggr has this function built right into the badge/widget function! No matter where you place your widget or profile card, when someone clicks on the ‘contact me’ or ‘email me’ icon they are given the ability to send you an email right from the widget and/or profile card without ever leaving that web page!

How flipping cool and convenient is that?!

Try retaggr. I think you might like it.

Thanks PHIL!

Posted by Sean on February 2, 2009

Why is the sun always out and the sky clear every time that damn varmint pokes his head out?

Well, leave it up to a rodent to boost our winter morale. The dang-gummit groundhog decided to see his shadow again… and therefore we get 6 more weeks of winter. (JUST LIKE LAST YEAR)

Uuuhh.. when was the last time he didn’t and we didn’t????

Check out weather lore on the accuracy of our beloved groundhog.

So…

THANKS PHIL.
