Yet… ANOTHER reason to increase your wellness

Posted by Sean on March 27, 2009

Irony or coincidence?

In the past 5 minutes reading my news I came across 2 articles with the topic of increase sodium.

Hmmm..

Increases sodium contributes to a decrease in wellness (increase BP,heart attack, stroke, etc)

Most Kidney Stones are calcium-based?

OH! and all processed foods require a high sodium content? (Ironic maybe?)

Do you eat a lot of processed foods?

Do you like being in pain? (Kidney stones are known to hurt worse than childbirth)

Things that make you go hmmm?

Allow Me To Introduce Myself

Posted by Sean on March 24, 2009

So against my wife’s wishes, I am officially revealing me. (I hope she doesn’t hit me too hard)

The past couple weeks have been interesting for me and my blogging. I have had little or nothing to blog about except humor, jokes, and miscellaneous banter about the news.

My personal challenge to transform my life into a  ‘Complaint Free’ world has been extremely educational and enlightening. Not only personally but professionally. Hell MOSTLY professionally. I have discovered that most of my ‘bad’ tendencies is my gossiping.

WOW do I gossip. And it’s not good gossip either.. I unfortunately have a real bad tendency to gossip under my breath to my wife, and to my fellow co-workers. I also join in and chime in when others are doing the gossiping!

So my blogging has suffered from this. OK, suffered is a bad description word. My blogging has changed.

I no longer have a desire to post blog entries complaining about my work woes. If I’m going to lessen if not eliminate my complaining and gossiping in person and at work. Then by-golly I’m NOT going to blog about it!

Let’s be honest, most of my nursing category blogs have been about challenges with staff, with patients and with my job in general. Very rarely did I post something positive about nursing (outside of my pride in being a nurse). So instead of faking-it with my blogging. I just stopped blogging about nursing all together temporarily. Until I could center myself and maintain some positive balance between what my goal is (not complaining) and what I’m actually doing (complaining).

During my pseudo-nursing-blogging-hiatus I found my ‘thing’. You know, that one thing that interests you. Or that one thing that motivates you. My ‘thing’ is wellness. Overall wellness. Mind and body wellness. In fact it’s been a part of my blogging since my start. I only incorporated nursing into my blogging because it is so engrained into my psyche.

So with my passion for wellness…. I created/discovered a new passion… a new project that is going to combine my love for the internet, my love for a healthy lifestyle, increased wellness, and supporting my local area.

Be The Next Step (some of my Twitter followers have already discovered this name)

With the help of GoDaddy I have created a wellness website for anyone who is interested. My intention is to start small with my friends from the internet and/or local acquaintances. I will be offering Wellness Coaching.

Some may think I’m jumping on the bandwagon of sort, but in my eyes this is a totally different and unique approach. I want everyone to understand and see that even with a full-time job (and working shifts) you can still create and maintain a healthy lifestyle and increase your overall wellness.

I want to offer assistance to anyone who is interested in increasing their wellness in whatever capacity that may be. Whether through exercise programs/suggestions, nutritional consult, mental aerobics, etc (please check out the website). I want to help you achieve your goals, in what ever area you see the need or the want, for a very small and negotiable fee.

I’m not sure where this will go. I’m not sure if it will go anywhere at all,  honestly. What I do know, is I have found what I’m interested in. And I have found something I’m good at, and (in my humble opinion) have a good bit of knowledge that I think is worth sharing.

Through whatever avenue suits those who are interested! (my clients). Everything from email, the main website, blog posts, video links, phone, or instant message (chat) I’m interesting in hearing how together we can set and accomplish your goals.

So without further a due…

Here is who you’ve know for the past year Strong One:

My name is Sean Dent. It’s nice to finally meet you.

Here I am present day:

I am making the web 2.0 identity switch over the coming days. So please be patient with me. I will be creating and/or editing my known ‘online-identities’. Everything from Twitter, FriendFeed, Disqus, Facebook , etc. I even plan on reaching out to the ominous MySpace as soon as I can.

I’m not sure where this project will take me, I hope you’ll join me. I hope you’ll still be around.

My blogging will change. I will keep blogging with MyStrongMedicine until it runs it’s course. My new blog is a ‘cookie-cutter’ type blog that came pre-made. So I don’t foresee there being a whole lot of advanced tweaking in that area.

The new website is still an infant. I’m still learning my way around. Please be patient. If you have any suggestions and/or advice I’d love to hear from you.

My new home: Be The Next Step

Come join me.

Grateful

Posted by Sean on March 24, 2009

Sometimes being grateful can wash away all the stress that ‘builds’ up in our daily race.

Thank you for being a part of my ‘big’ picture.

Finger-Pointing Media Placing Blame?

Posted by Sean on March 21, 2009

948294_question_mark

By now we have all read and heard about the tragic events of Natasha Richardson skiing accident. I won’t rehash the details.

What I do want to point out is the crucial and most important aspect of this difficult story.

TIME

According to the reports I’ve read, the actress initially refused treatment. It took close to an hour for her to finally succumb to the painful headache she was having.

If she had medical attention, the EMS service would have educated her and her family on what signs and symptoms to look for after a head injury- one of them being a headache.

NOW the media is redirected the ‘blame’ on the lack of medical air transport services.

I guess we can’t simply call a spade a spade. I guess we can’t live with this being categorized as an ACCIDENT.

We’d all be ostracized if we placed the blame on the actress herself, or her family and friends who were with her at that time?

That’s what happens when you don’t seek IMMEDIATE medical attention?

That’s what happens when you don’t take the proper precautions when participating in a ‘risky’ activity (wearing a helmet)

Apparently our society needs a scapegoat.

Isn’t this why we call them accidents?

Everything is preventable in hindsight.

Conflict Resolution : ‘Put Up Your Dukes!’

Posted by Sean on March 20, 2009

imageImage Source: DeviantART

A Dallas school system has been charged with allegations ‘that staff members at an inner-city high school made students settle their differences by fighting bare-knuckle brawls inside a steel cage’.

Seems that a school coach decided to hold ‘cage matches’ in the boys’ locker room equipment cage to hash out any indifferences because ‘this is how they settled disputes in his day’.

At first glance this bothered me. I mean it’s promoting physical fighting to resolve conflict.

But then I thought about all the other news around the world that I read everyday.

Don’t you thing ‘putting-your-dukes’ is a better alternative to ‘gang shootings’ and young teenagers being shot over a pair of shoes?

Rather a bloody nose, or a bruised ego than permanent physical damage. Rather hurt than die.

Things that make you go hmmm?
