Do We Always Have To Have A ScapeGoat?

Posted by Sean on April 16, 2009

A new article I found at webmd.com

OK. Maybe I’m biased on this one. But really? A baby’s slightly lower IQ is the result of a drug the mother took during pregnancy?
REALLY?

I’ve been following Craig Ballantyne, and his innovative Turbulence Training program since I first heard about it. I’ve been hooked ever since. Especially since I’m NO FAN of cardio. *wink*
Here are the latest winners of his latest Tranformation contest.
Congrats to Jonny and Robyn!

Focus

Posted by Sean on April 14, 2009

It’s never a matter of where you are. It’s a question of where you are going.

We always tend to focus on what is behind us instead of in front of us. We have this need to focus on what stops or hinders us, instead of focusing on the intended and wanted goal.

The only difference between setting a goal and accomplishing a goal is where your focus lies.

Are you one to constantly think, feel, act and ‘live’ by what is stopping you? Always finding a reason to rationalize why you haven’t gained that next inch. (No matter what that inch may be)

Or do you focus on the intent. Do you look around the obstacle? Do you weigh in on the options? Or better yet, do you either walk right over or through that obstacle to gain that next inch.

Life and every goal within it is a matter of inches. Each inch is mastered conquered by focusing your intent on that next inch. Near-sighted or Far-sighted, neither one changes how the game will be played.

So the question is, will you keep focusing on what’s going wrong?

Or will you focus on what’s going right?

I Broke

Posted by Sean on April 12, 2009

It has been a long time. In fact I don’t remember the last time I ate like I did today at the holiday dinner table.

I have spent the past year training and disciplining myself on proper eating habits, in and out of my own household. I was a habitual ‘snacker’ for the longest time. I would mindlessly eat all of the WORST foods in front of the TV. Watching my favorite TV shows resulted in a lot of empty bags of chips (no, that is not an exaggeration).

It took some time, but I was able to break that habit. I no longer buy, nor do I ‘want’ that kind of food when I’m in front the TV. In fact, if and when I watch TV, I usually don’t snack at all, or just have a yogurt.. maybe a piece of cheese.

My other horrible eating habit was self-exploding gluttony. I would and could eat anything and everything placed in front of me until I couldn’t breathe properly. If it looked good, or smelled good, or if it looked like someone else was enjoying that particular food item.. I was eating it too. Most people have a bad habit of doing this during the infamous ‘Thanksgiving Dinner’, where we all un-button our pants after we’re finished.

I was doing this at every dinner. For some reason I just kept eating.

This past year was about learning to stop after the first serving. Training my brain to know when enough is enough. Whether at the dinner table at home, a restaurant, or visiting someone else’s home, I was ‘Mikey’ – He’ll eat it! ( Who doesn’t remember that TV commercial for LIFE cereal?)

Well I slipped up today.

Today I stuffed my face. Man was it ugly.

Everything from the pasta, ham, ham sandwiches, stuffed celery sticks, ice cream cake dessert, cookies on the side, 2 glasses of diet pepsi, etc….

BLEGH.

My body and my digestive system have kindly and curtly reminded my why eating like this is so BAD.

It’s amazing and embarrassingly shocking to think this way of eating was my norm.

After a year’s worth of control, eating like this has actually made me sick. I am sick to my stomach due to my over-eating. And as everyone reading this is my witness.

It will not happen again.

A very wise fitness professional once said, “ YOU CAN’T OUT-TRAIN A BAD DIET”

Amen to that brother.

Amen to that.

I hope everyone’s holiday dinner was enjoyable, and less grueling than mine.

NEVER EVER Assume, Not Even In One's Dreams and Aspirations

Posted by Sean on April 12, 2009

Cynicism is a horrible thing sometimes. We all fall victim to this subconscious human reflex.
Every once in a while someone comes along and gives you that wake-up call we all need.

HAPPY EASTER!

Posted by Sean on April 12, 2009

When I think of the Easter holiday, I ALWAYS think of this commercial. In fact this morning when my wife and I awoke we greeted each other with:

“Thanks Easter Bunny! BAWK! BAWK!”

Regardless of your beliefs, I wish you a happy and safe holiday today.

Thanks for being a part of my adventure of life.

Obesity Wreaks Life-long Damage

Posted by Sean on April 12, 2009

Hip pain A new study suggests early age obesity has life-long effects, especially as we approach our golden years.

Extra pounds in midlife affect mobility as a senior – USATODAY.com

It seems that being obese at a young age will come back and haunt you later in life as mobility problems. Regardless of if and when you lose those unwanted pounds, the damage inflicted on your body does not go away.

Being obese in your mid-20’s caused mobility problems later in life even for those individuals who lost that unwanted weight later in life.

Excess weight can put stress on joints, make exercise difficult, and lead to chronic conditions such as diabetes, arthritis and heart disease — all of which are directly related to the development of mobility problems

This is just another reason to be proactive in the ‘battle of the bulge’.
