Do We HAVE To Have A ‘Scapegoat’ Answer For Obesity?

Posted by Sean on May 16, 2009

Why must we continue to dissect and study the ‘WHY’ of obesity? Whether in children or adults, obesity is obesity in my humble opinion.

The last time I checked obesity is due to consuming more calories than you burn off. Plain and simple.

Yep, there are ‘Ga-Zillion’ other contributing factors involved that can help or hinder your likelihood of being obese. Everything from family history to the environment. But let’s get serious here. Your obesity is not someone or something else’s fault. You are the one that sticks the food in your mouth (consume calories). You are the one that ‘moves’ (burns calories).

No one else.

So why are we still researching the ‘WHY’?

We all know why, we just don’t like the answer.

Carpe Diem

@ Peggikaye Thank you so very much for your comment. It is troubling that the majority try to find the easy way out.

Because people are too lazy to eat right and exercise. We are in the fast food lifestyle and too busy pushing our kids to soccer practice instead of cooking fresh healthy foods. Letting our kids stay inside on a beautiful summer day to play videogames. I once saw a bill to congress to make childhood obesity against the law, considering it neglect. GOOD it is neglect. Don’t give me that garbage it’s a gene. People are born retarded not fat!. I do buy into an occasional thyroid problem. Other than that quit being lazy get off the couch and cook some healthy food. One other commment…It is completely idiotic that you can get a box of snack cakes for a dollar and fresh vegetables or fruit cost way more!

Sean, even with a medical reason, there is still no easy way out. It’s been proven that the easier it is to come off, the harder it is to keep it off. Doing it ‘right’ is the only way to get it off healthily and permanently.

@ Peggikaye Well said my dear. Well said. Maybe if we all tried a little harder to do it ‘right’ things wouldn’t be as bad. Thank you so very much for your candor.

Because of the less than 10% of us that have a true endocrinological answer … they keep trying to up that % to include everyone.

Personally, I was told it was endocrinological and didn’t believe it for 3 years. Finally started to believe ..and finally started to get answers. But I’m *NOT* in the majority.

(Prednisone hasn’t helped one bit either)

It’s like most things in life, people, particularly Americans, want an easy out, easy fix.
