In a world of ‘BIG HURT’, everything really is ‘SO SMALL’.
Keep your life in perspective.
I know I’m trying.

Too Much Fun!? (There IS Such A Thing) = The Hangover
Posted by Sean on June 16, 2009
So the wife and I braved the Cinema today – let me explain.
We have had, what you would call NO LUCK when it came to movies and their recommendations over the past 6-12 months. Everything that our friend, co-workers and family suggested and urged us to watch and/or rent turned out to be a total flop (at least for us).
The movie either bored us, or just had no ‘uhmph’ to it. What we saw as funny in the previews, was the ONLY funny part of the movie. What we saw as dramatic in the previews, was the ONLY piece of interesting information about the movie!
I honestly can’t remember the list of movies we’ve seen, all I can tell you is we created this ‘taboo-like’ environment any and every time the discussion of movies came up.
Which is why, when we finally saw the preview for ‘The Hangover‘ we were beyond skeptical. The preview had the makings of a great comedy. Everything from side-splitting laughter, to tickle-snickering giggling. It had off-color humor and the ‘I-know-you-can-relate’ humor that everyone laughs at and no one admits to.
We even had friends and co-workers suggesting and urging us to go see the movie.
So under peer pressure and just pure curiosity we sat in the theater this afternoon (of course we went to the matinee – aren’t you living in the same economy we are?!) -
Warner Bros DELIVERED!
OH MY GARSH!
I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time.
You ever watch a movie that had so many funny moments that you more than likely missed some because you were too busy laughing? – Yep this is one of those movies.
What’s great about this movie is it clashes the two things we are all too familiar with:
- A night of drinking that got out of hand that lead to a morning of memory loss
- What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas – because it can’t happen anywhere else!
Oh, did I mention it was a bachelor party?
The characters were awesome. The storyline had it’s weak moments that were parlayed and easily looked over with the dry slap-stick humor that left you thinking, ‘Oh my god, did that really just happen. No. That couldn’t happen’
This movie was all about the extreme situation.
If you think losing your keys is bad after a night of partying. Wait till you see what these guys lost (and it was more than just their friend)
Ever wake up with farm animals and wild-exotic creatures sharing the same oxygen as you? Misplaced a baby? How about lose a tooth? Get married? Steal a car? Lose a car? Visit the hospital?
All of these things apparently transpire during the night-before. None of which anyone remembers.
The movie is all about these guys trying to piece together the very alcohol-drug induced fog of a night in the hopes of locating the soon-to-be groom. Yep, they lost him too.
I don’t want to give too much away, because the way this move progresses and ends is just laugh-your-ass-off-till-your-head-hurts kind of fun.
Be fore-warned, there is a lot of raunchy and racy humor-like content that is not meant for the weak-stomached or rigid-minded viewer.
Do yourself a favor, have some fun and go see this movie.

COUGH! COUGH! COUGH! It’s About Time

I hate smoking. It’s no secret. Smoking has no benefits for me, my family, my friends, or anyone I care about. Smoking contributes nothing to anyone’s way of life.
Smoking takes. It takes away and takes from anything and everything it touches. It’s nothing but bad on all levels.
I really don’t think I need to explain WHY and where my hatred originates for smoking and anything related to it. (I would love someone to argue one ‘benefit’ or one ‘positive’ piece of information when referring to this habit)
So President Obama seems to be taking at least one smart step during his travels while staying in the white house.
Word is he’s signing the infamous HR 1256: Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act into law soon!
Here’s what’s involved in this new legislation:
- Cigarette packages will have warning labels that cover 50 percent of the front and rear. The word "warning" must be included in capital letters.
- Any remaining tobacco-related sponsorships of sports and entertainment events will be banned, as will giveaways of non-tobacco items with the purchase of a tobacco product. A federal ban will be imposed on all outdoor tobacco advertising within 1,000 feet of schools and playgrounds.
- Point-of-sale advertising will be limited to adults-only facilities, and remaining vending machines will disappear except in places restricted to adults. Retailers who sell to minors will be subject to federal enforcement and penalties.
- Smokers, particularly the younger crowd, will find they can no longer buy cigarettes sweetened by candy flavors or any herb or spices such as strawberry, grape, orange, clove, cinnamon or vanilla. Cigarettes advertised as "light" or "mild," giving the impression that they aren’t as harmful to health, will no longer be found on store shelves.
The last piece of information, in my opinion, is going to have a huge impact on our youth.
It’s about time Mr. President.
It’s about time.

Time For Increasing My Possibilities

I’ve never been one to sit still.
My blog and it’s activities should give you a small taste of what my life can be like. I truly never set out to run through the revolving doors. It just seems to happen that way.
I love being nurse. I love the opportunities it has afforded me. Since my inception into this career I have learned a great deal about the field of nursing, learned a great deal about myself, and learned a great deal about where ‘my’ nursing fits.
Here’s what I’ve learned so far about me and me being a nurse:
I DO NOT WANT
- Work on a med-surg unit (A league of their own – my hats off to them; I could never do it)
- Work as a nurse manager
- Work nights (avoiding this as best as possible)
- Down time at my job (being super slow)
- Work as an OR nurse
- To-Be-Bored!
- Lose my critical care skills
- Talked down to, or demeaned by physicians
- Co-workers who refuse to grow up
- Drama
- Back-stabbing
- High school antics at work
- Worry about getting full-time hours or full-time benefits
- Worry about insurance
- Limit my options or opportunities
- An environment that is not team-oriented
- Disrespectful colleagues
- Drive FOREVER to work
- Travel nursing – at least not at this point in our life (my wife and I).
I DO WANT
- Anything ICU
- Utilize my CCRN certification
- Utilize my critical care skills
- Challenging work
- Taxing work
- Being busy
- Work with and be respected by physicians
- A place I can call home
- Learn
- Diversity
- Team environment
- Teaching-hospital type environment (Big-City Hospital)
- Increased opportunity for advancement
So with that in mind. I have decided to leave my current position in the PACU and return to the ICU. I have accepted a Surgical ICU position in a Big City Hospital. It will be a return to the original scenario I left just less than a year ago, but in the end the benefits outweigh my concerns. I’m meant for that environment. The bigger, the busier… the better.

I have oh-so missed the ICU bedside. I’ve missed the ‘craziness’ of the ICU. I’ve missed it all.
And now I’m going back where I belong.

What’s the big fat deal?
Posted by Sean on June 13, 2009
“No one wants to hear the facts about weight loss. It’s simple. Take that bag of Doritos and throw it as far as you can. Now chase after it. Pick it up, do it again.”
Anyone who’s been to the movies in the past 7 years may remember the movie ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’ starring Nia Vardalos.
I won’t dive into the details of the movie, but let’s just say it was hit, where Nia played the lead role.
The above quote is Nia explaining her ‘secret’ to her weight loss over the past year:
Anderson Cooper 360: Blog Archive – What’s the big fat deal? « – Blogs from CNN.com
I loved the article because she talks about how Hollywood and the media are only interested in the ‘secrets’ to weight loss – not the cold,hard-to-digest truth.
The take home message being. The media, Hollywood, hell most of the population doesn’t want to hear or know how to lose weight. They want to know where the ‘silver bullet’ is. They want the quick-fast-and-in-a-hurry solution.
Don’t mention the words: work, consistency, diet, exercise, or god-forbid patience and time. That’s just too hard, too long, and frankly doesn’t fit into their life style.
They want the ‘Easy Button’ of weight loss because the truth…
Well the truth is just too damn difficult.
Way to go Nia.
