Magneat: A Tangled Web We Weave

Posted by Sean on July 26, 2009

I’m a fan of headphones. I wear them at the gym religiously. Whether I’m doing my circuit workouts, body weight exercises, or I’m running on the ARC trainer, I have my ‘ear buds’ locked in.

I do it for many reasons, but mostly for the motivating music. I humbly admit that the headphones also afford me quite a bit of solitude from the rest of the noisy-active gym. Sometimes the ‘gym-gerks’ can really put a damper on the limited time you have to exercise.

The enormous drawback to wearing my ear buds when running on the ARC trainer is the lack of cord control. I sometimes will listen and/or watch the TV attached to the ARC trainer, therefore I plug in my headphones to the machine. While running full speed, or maximal effort the cords to my headphones become an animated dragon I sometimes have to slay. The running action causes the cord to whip and swing with the rhythm of my running. It’s not a pretty sight sometimes. I’ve have caught myself a few times almost losing my balance and footing when attempting to calm the cord-critter. I get distracted by the constant cord lashing.

Well it seems there might be a product out there for me?

The Magneat

2009-07-26-203420

A magnet-like clip that ‘clips’ to your clothing by the ‘sandwich’ method. Its a hefty-strong magnet that will hold your earphone cord in place where ever you place the magneat.

2009-07-26-203336

It comes with a clip for securing the end of the cord, and of course comes in a variety of colors and styles.

Upon further digging into their website you can order these lil puppies online. Oh and there’s a demo video on the main website for your viewing pleasure.

What do you think?

Worth a try?

Tweak Today Mission

Posted by Sean on July 25, 2009

So. I love randomness. I stumbled upon this new website that is all about randomness. Randomness and participation. What a combination.

I found this new website Tweak Today while surfing the internets here.

tweak today

"Do something different every day" – a simple and fun concept from Tweak Today

It posts a daily ‘mission’ for you to accomplish. Once accomplished you post your results on the site. Each mission is chosen a day ahead, and missions are submitted by users and chosen by popularity.

You can import content via Flickr or Twitter, or you can simply go to the website and submit your mission. Setting up your imported content seems easy, but also lags. I set up my Twitter and even after tweeting my mission, it still hasn’t shown it only shows the tweet, and not the picture.

Yes, not extremely exciting, but heck it could be fun.

Here was yesterday’s mission:

Here’s today’s mission: (even though I tweeted this earlier)

Like I said, mundane, sort of off the wall, and down right quirky. But still fun.

I even might start submitting possible missions!

I’ll probably stick with this for a while, see how it turns out. Heck if anything I’ll get a good laugh out of it. I know my wife has already!

Dietary Supplement = Steroid??

Posted by Sean on July 25, 2009

It seems in the race to be the best, even the best intentions come with risks.

2009-07-25-092952  2009-07-25-093017

Federal authorities submitted a claim that the above dietary supplements contain steroids. Steroids, which if you didn’t know are quite illegal.

I guess these products are popular amongst the high school football athlete.

Tren Extreme and Mass Extreme, manufactured by American Cellular Labs promotes these products as a safe ‘legal’ alternative to steroids.

OOPS

The horrible effects that steroids can wreak on the human body are too numerous to discuss, let alone their effects on a growing young athlete.  Let’s just say, hospitals would be come your best friend.

Not sure where this will lead, but the manufacturer and the businesses who are selling the product aren’t sayin’ much right now.

Let’s hope it was a simple case of ‘we didn’t know’.

FloggDaily – For Your Fitness Journal Needs?

Posted by Sean on July 23, 2009

A new fitness journal / diet log to help assist you on your journey to improved health and fitness.

FloggDaily

clip_image001

I’m always about brutal honesty. So here’s my take on this new fitness journal.

It’s a great idea. A great idea that is not new in the world of fitness and dieting industry. Tracking your progress. Tracking your calories. I believe Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers have made quite a bit of money off this very simple concept.

It seems that this is just a new twist on an old idea.

The book itself looks sleek and has some eye-catching appeal. The book doesn’t seem to offer anything more than a personal journal for your dieting and exercise activity rolled with some sparse extras.

"With FLogg DAILY, meals and exercise are divided equally on two-page spreads, providing ample room to track your calories for three full months. Fresh foods and sports / activity caloric indices are included as handy reference guides, as well as personal assessment pages to gauge your progress, all rolled into a slim, sexy package that you can take with you anywhere. "

I’m sorry. I’m not convinced. I’m not understanding why I would pay close to $20 for a notebook? A notebook that has a rugged backing for wear and tear, yes. But it’s still a notebook.

Why don’t I just go buy a similar sized notebook at my local store for a fraction of the price?

I can utilize the dollar-store notebook in the same way as this new-innovative product can’t I?

Oh and besides the actual product, what about the name? FloggDaily?

I’m not what you would call extremely diverse. I’ve done my fair share of living. But when I read the name, I hade to read it twice.

FloggDaily..

Flog???

What a minute. Flog?!

“1 a: to beat with or as if with a rod or whip b: to criticize harshly2: to force or urge into action : drive3 achiefly British : to sell (as stolen goods) illegally <flogged their employers’ petrol to ordinary motorists — Economist> b: sell 7 <traveled by horse, flogging encyclopedias — Robert Darnton> c: to promote aggressively : plug <flying around the world flogging your movies — Peter Bogdanovich>4British : steal 1intransitive verb1: flap, flutter <sails flogging>2British : to move along with difficulty : slog

— flog·ger noun

FLogg DAILY or "Food/Fitness Log"

OK.

I understand the concept of the name, but seriously. This product produces images in my mind… and on the web… of things that are SO not related to losing weight and being fit.

  • Would I use it?
    • Probably not. I don’t keep count of my calories. I keep count of the quality of my calories
  • Would I buy it?
    • No. If I required the use of a diet log or fitness journal I’d go out and buy the dollar-store variety notebook.
  • Would you recommend it to others?
    • Can’t say I would. Once again, an unnecessary expense. If you choose to count and need to write them down, there are less pricey ways of doing this.

Sorry folks. I’m not good at spreading the word on things I can’t honestly say I’d use or utilize. I wish the folks at FloggDaily the best of luck with their new product, I’m just not an interested consumer.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this one.

It's Your Day – Make It Memorable

Posted by Sean on July 23, 2009

YouTube – JK Wedding Entrance Dance.

This was AWESOME. I’ve been seeing this as a trend lately. Newlyweds changing things up a bit and breaking away from tradition. This was the latest one found on YouTube, and the first one I’ve seen where the traditional ceremonial entrance was given a spark.

I think it’s wonderful.

How better to celebrate your luck and your love.

Carpe Diem
