Scrubs (scrubsmag.com), the First Lifestyle Magazine and Website for Nurses, Premieres November 2009

Los Angeles, CA (November 3, 2009) – Scrubs Magazine (scrubsmag.com), the first lifestyle magazine and website for nurses, premieres November 15. The magazine, with a paid circulation of 350,000, will be sold in more than 1,500 nursing apparel stores nationwide. Strategic Partners, Inc. (SPI) – the leading nursing apparel and footwear company in the United States and manufacturer/distributor of scrubs under the labels of Cherokee, Disney, Baby Phat, Skechers, the NFL and others – is the founding sponsor.

“There are almost three million RNs in the United States, making nursing one of the largest segments of the U.S. workforce,” says Michael Singer, Chief Executive Officer of SPI. “Healthcare is one of the few sectors of the economy adding jobs.* Scrubs and scrubsmag.com are perfectly positioned to reach this growing and thriving market.”

It is pretty darn kewl to be a part of such an event. For those of you who have forgotten – I am the male nurse blogger for this internet (and now printed) magazine. Here is the original article regarding its release: Scrubs Magazine Launches – mediabistro.com: FishbowlLA.

A Nurse and the H1N1 Flu Panic

Posted by Sean on November 2, 2009

Yep. This swine flu/ pig flu/ H1N1 flu / (insert scary name) is really starting to gnaw at my nerves. Fact vs. Fiction can really cause quite a stir in the public. There is a reason why there is such a public ‘concern’ about this new virus. We caused it.

Yes, you read that right.

WE as in the public. As in society. As in all of us. We caused this. We failed at properly educating the public. Educating those on the who/what/when/where/why’s of this new virus.

Yes, we (I use this term loosely) are making strides to better inform everyone NOW – after the fact. We are NOW trying to calm everyone down by delivering the proper message. Making a valiant attempt at extinguishing the ‘fire’ we created.

I thought you might like to read my latest blog post over at Scrubs Magazine. Follow the link for the rest: A Nurse and the H1N1 Flu Panic

Driving Drunk

Posted by Sean on November 2, 2009

Drowsy Driving Prevention Week: Nov. 2-8

Can drowsy driving be equated to drunk driving? If you look at the statistics of crashes and deaths caused by sleepy drivers and compare them with those of drunk drivers, it won’t take you long to see the similarity.

The National Sleep Foundation notes that a study in Australia compared various levels of sleepiness with blood alcohol levels and what they found may be surprising. Being awake for:

  • 18 hours equaled a blood alcohol level of 0.05
  • 24 hours equaled 0.10
  • 0.08 is considered to be the level of legally drunk

sleepcartoon_NCIt’s because of numbers like this, the Centers of Disease Control (CDC) is reminding us that November 2 through 8, 2009 is Drowsy Driving Prevention Week. The hope is that a week of awareness may help reduce the estimated 100,000 crashes, which result in more than 1,500 deaths nationwide.

The irony.
I was just ‘complaining’ about feeling drunk after a couple of midnight shifts this weekend .. and I come across this blog!
How eerie.
