Armoured Fitness

Posted by Sean on July 25, 2010

Under Armour that is.

IMG00043-20100515-1555

So the shortened version of the story goes like this: I have this problem. I have an addiction (lol). I’m addicted to anything Under Armour.

It’s so apparent and obligatory that my nickname around certain areas of where I work is ‘Under Armour’. I wear it a lot. In fact the word a lot doesn’t really do my habit any justice. The other day I tried to take stock on how many apparel items of Under Armour I owned….

I lost count.

Over the past 3 years or so I some how started a collection of sorts. Although the word collection implies a lack of use. I wear and use all my UA gear year round. I wear it for work, play and leisure. I have accessories as well as promotional paraphernalia. Yes, did I mention it’s quite the ‘questionable’ obsession.

So the question is why wear it? It’s expensive – at the very least it is much more expensive than the competitor and the so-called knock-offs that are out there.

I tried the knock-offs. I even wore them for a short time. Then I bought a couple compression UA  T-shirts when they were on sale.

WOW!

It was night and day. The improvement in the material, the feel, the performance, etc. The UA was worlds apart from the wannabes.

As for the competitors? Never tried them. Never will.

Under Armour has proven time and time again (at least for me) that they deliver the product they promote. I love the wicking effect – and how well that works. I sweat A LOT. Whether it’s at work or when I exercise – I sweat buckets. The UA gear does a great job of keeping me ‘swamp free’. And then on the flip side – when things cool down, UA gear keeps me warm and chill-free.

It started with just wearing the gear at work. Then I got the compression gear for exercising! I was hooked! The compression gear not only delivers the same top-notch wicking and absorption, but I gotta admit, it feels great! Heck it feels awesome.

Yep, I’m the geeky UA gear walking billboard in the gym. I am plastered with Under Armour from head to toe. I think I only have one item of clothing that is NOT UA when I’m exercising. Yes, I’m that guy.

I’ll admit it. It’s not only the functionality of the gear, but it’s the image. The image and the reputation that UA has developed over the past couple years has become quite the motivator. Who doesn’t want to look, feel and even perform at the same level of the professional athletes sporting the UA gear. Yeah – it’s all in my head (or John Q. Public) but it’s a mindset and a great mantra for pushing yourself and your body to a limit that you might not have reached otherwise.

It’s all a mindset – and me wearing Under Armour gives me a rush. Call me crazy. Call me stupid. Call me silly.

It’s not only a piece of motivation to work hard during the moment, but it’s also a subliminal goal for me. My goal is to look like the professionals wearing the UA gear. Who doesn’t want to look like George St. Pierre?! Or how about Eric Ogbogu?? Then there is Lindsey Vonn and a slew of other professional athletes out there that make it look good and look easy.

Yep, I have lofty goals.

A thank you to Kevin Plank for hating cotton fabric!

Me, as a Teen

Posted by Sean on July 25, 2010

I was your typical student-athlete closet geek.

World’s Favorite Sport

Wait. Is that typical?

Heh heh.. I played 2 sports, I was involved in numerous clubs and I excelled in classes. I guess I was the All-American kid?

I wore glasses during my last years of high school.

I loved wearing my 'penny loafer' shoes.

For some strange reason I think I wore a certain pair of jeans at least twice a week!

I had a square head and I thought having a mullet was cool?

*laughing*

Whew – gewd ole' teenage years.

Friend Numero Uno

Posted by Sean on July 24, 2010

My angel…

Dead Snow Angel

This is such an easy one. My best friend is my wife. It's the MAIN reason of the million reasons I married her. We can talk and talk for hours and lose track of the time. We finish each others sentences because we think so much a like. She is there for me at all times, even when I don't know it!

My best friend is the love of my life. We are two peas in a pod.

I love that we can spend time together, never have to speak a word and still be comfortable and at peace.

She has been and always will be the air I breath because she is my angel and my best friend.

Yes, I am a lucky man.

My first job:

Posted by Sean on July 23, 2010

I worked as a lifeguard, swimming coach and swimming instructor during my high school years. It blended well with my activities at the time, since I was on the swim team.

While the job itself, to me, was easy, learning how to budget my time was quite the challenge as a young student athlete.

The responsibilities I developed during those years have stayed with me and still ring true to this very day.

Always learn to keep the P. A. C. E.

185/365 From a little spark bursts a mighty flame

Positive

Attitude

Changes

Everything

It took me many years to catch on to this simple idea, but it holds true in every walk of life. It's not what happens to you that matters, it's how you react to it. Staying positive not only lifts your spirits, but everyone's around you.

You attitude is intoxicating and is quite catchy. You'd be surprised how easily you can brighten someone's day just by being positive.

It only takes one spark to light a fire.

An Honest Answer

Posted by Sean on July 21, 2010

Do you love your job?

Kid plays in water and sand on Morro Strand State Beach

Love is such a powerful word, but it truly defines your actions in regards to your job.

Loving your job simply means not viewing it as a 'must do' responsibility – but as 'will do' type of action.

It's hard to define if you've never experienced it I guess. The old saying goes, 'If you love your job, you'll never work a day in your life'.

Work being the key word there. If you love what you do, no need to consider it 'work'. In fact some would call it 'play'. You get paid to play so to speak.

Do you love your job?

If not, why? And why aren't you doing what you love?

Would I Survive No Internet for a Whole Month?

Posted by Sean on July 20, 2010

Surprise – II

Unfortunately NO! I think I'd have to go to rehab if I had no internet or any connection at all to the internet. If it's not my computer, then it's my BlackBerry. Yes I'm wired for sound.

And it's for personal as well as professional reasons. I use the computer for leisure, but the internet is used for work and of course for my academic ventures!

So.. uh… that's a big N. O.
