The Weirdest Pet Peeve

Posted by Sean on July 19, 2010

Food touching…

[Display of home-canned food] (LOC)

OK. OK. It's not really my pet peeve, but I know more than a few people who share this oddity. When eating a meal, or placing their meal on their plate the foods must remain separate during the whole meal.

When the foods touch it seems to 'lessen' the experience of eating the food – even though all the foods have the same destination?

Weird?

Reruns of 'Family Matters' still hold up

Posted by Sean on July 18, 2010

Family Matters
For some reason I was sucked into Steve Erckle’s vortex of comedy. “Did I do that” still makes me laugh hysterically!

Quantum Leap
Sam Beckett’s travels, no matter how many times I’ve seen them are still awesome to watch. Such an awesome TV show then and now.

Moonlighting
I don’t see this one too often but this was Bruce Willis at his best. Him and Cybil Sheppard were a great duo!

Fitness guru to help the military?

Posted by Sean on July 17, 2010

I’m not sure how I feel about this? I’m still baffled and frankly disgusted that the military actually needs help with their fitness level and is fighting obesity amongst its ranks???
What happened to our military?
Yes, I understand the obesity epidemic going on nationally, but how did the military become so sedentary that they became obese? Many moons ago as a former Jarhead, physical fitness wasn’t optional.
*sigh*
Now we need (is need a really good word) the help from a ‘fitness guru’ (slang term for someone who lost weight, shared their story and now is an expert) to assist our enlisted personnel in losing weight??
Help me out here my fellow readers.
What am I missing? Or am I the only one that’s a tad bit upset/disturbed/shocked by this??

A delicacy of a memory…

Posted by Sean on July 17, 2010

Cheese cake reminds me of great-grandmother (may she rest in peace)

Raspberry White Chocolate 5.5 Cheesecake

My great- grandmother was 'old skool'. Everything in her kitchen and everything meal she prepared was 'made from scratch'. She didn't by anything pre-made or frozen. Everything from her sauces to her spice rack were all original.

Her cheese cake was THE BEST. All made from scratch. She made the crust from break crumbs and the actual cheese cake was a mouth watering original that I still can't describe in words.

I never appreciated it until later in life when I'd had the 'pre-made' cheese cake.

As a child my great-grandmother, without fail, would have a cheese cake made every visit.

Fond memories.

The World Would Be a Better Place If…

Posted by Sean on July 16, 2010

we live like it's the Holiday season…

Happy Holidays

During the holidays we smile a little more, laugh a little more and are nicer than usual to our fellow man.

We all become the people we want to be.

Happiness and kindness are just as toxic as the common cold. Spread a little love and it multiplies.

Happy Holidays!

The Definition of Insanity

Isn’t this the definition of insanity? Doing something over and over again expecting a different result??
Ya gotta admit – this is quite funny.

Overheard at My Own Funeral

Posted by Sean on July 15, 2010

Ship wake

My funeral will be a celebration of life, not a mourning of a death. I guess you could say I want a 'wake' instead of the traditional procession.

I believe they would say:

He was always happy. He had an 'energy' about him that made every attempt at making those around him happier, even for just a moment.

He cared a great deal about his fellow man. A loving husband and dedicated nurse.

(I can't say I'm very comfortable at talking about myself??)

My Favorite Quote of All Time

Posted by Sean on July 14, 2010

Carpe Diem -

Maybe it's not technically a 'quote', but it's my favorite saying. I fell in love with it as a teenager. I believe the first time I heard it, and it's use was during the movie "The Dead Poets' Society" – with Robin Williams.

I loved the underlying meaning of the phrase and it's pure simplicity.

Carpe Diem = Seize the day.

I guess you could equate this quote/saying/phrase to many other quotes. It's all about taking advantage of each moment that passes. Not to waste your time.

Get up, get going, get out there, and just get it!

So many time we play a passive role in the game called life, this quote exemplifies the idea and thought process of taking an active role in how your life takes shape.

Seize the day, since every day is a gift.

I wish I'd learned that sooner

Posted by Sean on July 13, 2010

Being patient.

Patience truly is 'a virtue', since we all live in this world of immediacy. Patience has taught me that good things really do come to those who wait. The waiting is the hard part, and really is worth the effort.

While my choices in life are not regrets, I believe some of my errors in judgment may have been prevented by being just a little more patient in my actions.
