First #RNchat on Twitter of 2013 is scheduled!!

So, who here has been around Twitter long enough to remember the chat on Twitter, or the ’tweet chat’  with  the hashtag #RNChat?

From a blog post I wrote in 2009:

The collaboration, sharing, and networking is just astonishing. I sometimes have a hard time wrapping my mind around just how big this thing has gotten.. and just how much bigger it will become. The numbers are climbing, and the interest keeps growing. Before you know it nurses and the word social media will become as synonymous as the word blog and internet. (yep.. I’m aiming high).

Recently efforts are being made to corral the conversation. Phil Baumann has created and conducts an awesome ‘virtual’ chat on Twitter called RN Chat. It’s a free-form forum-type thinking-and-action discussion. It of course is geared for RN’s, but other healthcare and medical professionals are welcome to participate. The chat’s are pre-scheduled at designated times. Each chat session is given a couple days to a week notice for everyone to try and attend. The ‘chat’ is began, guided and monitored by Phil himself, who also participates in the dialog.

Phil has taken the time to create a dedicated website that gives all the great details about this awesome community-driven service at RNchat. It also gives a detailed transcript of each previous chat session! (How cool is that?) So if you miss the chat, and wanted to know what was discussed.. you can take a gander. Tucked snuggly within this website is also a great list of RN’s on Twitter! Phil thought of everything.

Via RNchat? Nurses Engaged and Embedded In The Social Web

It was one of the first ‘tweet chat’ of its kind a couple of years ago. Back in 2009 hashtags were in their infancy and focused chatting on Twitter was unheard of, but a fellow nurse on Twitter (Phil B who eventually created the RNchat Twiter handle) had the foreword thinking to create such a wonderful chat environment for us nurses.

It did great for about 2 years or so (I think) and then I lost touch. Eventually I think it fizzled due to a lack of interest. I really don’t have a whole lot of answers as to why it ‘died’, but I’m here to inform you that a small group of “old heads” on Twitter are on the move. Some of the “old head” nurses on Twitter are some of the very first nurses I ever connected with on the now-juggernaut known as Twitter. We’ve recently reconnected to some degree, and we all have agreed that we need to revive that energy and conversation we once had.

Personally, it was where I learned a lot about being a nurse in those first few years. And now that I’m stepping up to the next level of my career, I’m ready to share my experiences and learn even more.

We are pre-planning to start the #rnchat tweetchats again once the holidays are over. This is my call to arms to any and all nurses who can read this.

I’ll be dropping constant reminders over the next couple weeks on my blog, on Twitter and on the new Google+ community Nurse+. Come on by and check it out, come see what the conversation is about. Join in!

UPDATE:We have our first scheduled chat on Thursday January 10, 2013 @ 9pm EST. Be sure to join us and use the hashtag #RNchat !!
