I’ve battled with weight gain. I remember waking up every morning in some sort of pain. I still remember my back aching, feeling this rope-like tension in my lower back.
The pain took a while to subside once I got out of bed. My shuffle was slow. I remember it taking me twice as long to get my morning going.
That was almost 10 years ago.
I had gained about 65 pounds during Nursing school. A culmination of inadequate sleep, overwhelming stress, poor food choices and dangerous health habits had made me unhappy and dangerously unhealthy. I couldn’t do the things I used to do. It was the first time I heard “Pre-Hypertension”.
As a former “athletic” guy, my brain knew what I needed to do…. but actually making the decision to do them was so very hard.
Once I made the decision, I armed myself with as much information as I could muster. It wasn’t easy, but all the small changes I made have remained a permanent part of my life.
I adopted healthy habits that have sustained me over the past decade. I figured out the hard way that knowing was not enough.
It’s one of the many reasons I’m training to become a Certified Health Coach. The Health Coaching team I’m a part of is out to make America Healthy.

OH… and the Holiday’s are upon us. Anyone else nervous about maintaining your health? Do you like to play any games?
There’s this really cool Challenge coming up called The Holiday Health Challenge (starting on 11/21/16) .
It gamifies the accountability of maintaining your health. You participate in daily activities which you log in via the website or (free) mobile app like drinking water, sleep, exercise, etc. The points are tallied at the end of the challenge to determine the winner. The more points… the more chance you have of winning your money back!
While winning money is awesome, just imagine how many good health habits you could develop through this challenge, not to mention a supportive environment?
The game includes interaction and support from a community of people sharing your same struggle. The more you engage, the more chance you have at accomplishing your goal (whatever that may be).
