Nurses: Do you remember every patient?

“It’s you! You were my Nurse! You took care of me…”

What do you do… what do you say when you are approached by a former patient who wants to show their appreciation for the care you provided?

What happens when you don’t remember them?

Awkward silence

I don’t know about you… but I’ve cared for A LOT of patients in my short time in this profession. I barely remember what day of the week it is, let alone remember names / faces of former patients that I may have cared for from months (or years) ago.

Do you ‘play it off’ like you remember them…. or do you politely explain/apologize for not remembering them?

What do you say to them? What is your response?
