<p>I&#8217;m still speechless that there are people out there who not only promote them, but still swear by them. The old adage of sit ups = six-pack abs is simply just not true. <br />
A strong core is not the result of doing sit-ups, let alone 200 of them! The sit-up is not only unsafe on many levels (for your cervical spine, lumber spine, sacral complex to name a few), but it fails to properly challenge your &#8216;core&#8217;.<br />
Your core is a muscle complex that involves the mid-section (not just your abdominals). I won&#8217;t bore you with the specifics &#8211; let&#8217;s just say your core is at work throughout just about every movement your make.<br />
It&#8217;s a dynamic and static total body stabilizer. To sit on the floor and flex at your hips does your &#8216;core&#8217; an injustice, since the majority of your &#8216;core&#8217; isn&#8217;t even activated while performing the sit-up.<br />
Take 5 minutes and &#8216;Google&#8217; the word &#8216;core&#8217;. Then hop on over to YouTube and search for &#8216;core exercise&#8217;.<br />
Let me know how many times you see the sit-up.<br />
Better yet, try any of the novice &#8216;core&#8217; exercises. Can you honestly say a sit-up &#8216;works&#8217; you the same?<br />
I&#8217;m not making this up, really I&#8217;m not. It&#8217;s no secret. <br />
I just feel anyone &#8216;serious&#8217; about their core strength shouldn&#8217;t waste their time.</p>

They’ve decided to give you some great, easy-to-do, ‘<em>guaranteed’</em>, and ‘simple’ exercises that are <strong>SURE</strong> to ‘flatten’ your tummy: </p>

<p>And it will only take 2 exercises!</p>
<p>YES! Just 2!</p>
<p>I’ll only ‘comment’ on one of their suggested ‘go-to’ exercises. The Plank. If you do this simple exercise you’ll be on your way to that flat tummy:</p>
<blockquote><p>Get into a push-up position with your forearms on the floor.     <br />- Lift your <strong><a href="http://www.realbeauty.com/health/fitness/exercise/lean-legs-in-seven-days?=link=rel&amp;dom=yah_life&amp;src=syn&amp;con=blog_bea&amp;mag=bea">legs</a></strong> and torso up off the ground so that only your toes and the flats of your forearms remain on the floor.      <br />- <strong><u>Keeping your back neutral</u></strong> and your belly button pulled in, hold this position for 20-60 seconds.</p>

<p>Did anyone notice? So much for that ‘keeping your back neutral’ thing ehh?</p>

<p>Taking into account the room for error and the tricks a 2-D picture can make when it’s a 3-D character &#8211; there is still something off here. </p>
<p>I’m no expert, but it seems like a lil’ incorrect form? Or am I just nitpicking? Now, don’t get me wrong, I will be the first one to support this exercise. This basic ‘core’ exercise is the building block for a stronger, solid and tighter mid-section – but c’mon guys.. </p>
<p>I guess I’m of the opinion if you’re going to provide sound advice, be sure it’s ‘sound’ before you go splashing it on the front page.</p>
