What happens if you don’t get the job you want??

twitter_21b412888a

You finally get that interview. All your hard work is finally coming to fruition. You go through the white-knuckled interview only to find out you didn’t get the offer you wanted.

WHAT?!

You get offered a ‘different’ job…. one you did not apply for. Now, hold on a sec. You were actually offered a job!

Just not the one you want… what do you do?

I thought of five things that might help you:

1. Be OK with the possibility.
2. You’re not settling, you’re preparing.
3. You didn’t lose (this is not a contest). I mean you did get a job offer.
4. Learn things.
5. Network

Ultimately… the real question is… why wouldn’t you take the job??

Nurses: What is your dream job?

twitter_61985a0a19

If you could have your dream job, what would it look like? Where would it be? How would it function? Who would it be with? What specialty? Geographical location? Shift?

Make a list and provide as much detail as possible.
Here are some hot topics that I’d address in my dream job:

1. Pay
2. Nurse:Patient ratios
3. Human resource details: holiday, CEU, leave, vacation, etc.
4. Geographic location
5. Patient population

Write down an itemized list of all the things that would make up your dream job.

…. Go ahead… I’ll wait…

Now… the real question is…. Are you working that job now? Why Not?

Why aren’t you working that job? How can you make it happen?

Start now and create a short-term and long-term plan. Set goals and meet them. We all deserve that dream job.

What would you add?
