I’m An 80’s-Movie Wild-Child

1982????

Really??

Tron-DVD

I still can’t believe the original Tron movie came out in 1982. Wow, feeling rather old right now since I remember watching this movie as a kid.

Whew.

The new Tron:Legacy will be out in December. I am so ‘pumped’.

I do have a small prediction. Anyone else watch the TV show ‘Chuck’? If you do, we all know he has the original poster in his bedroom. Any takers on the show promoting or mentioning the original or even the new movie release as we get closer to the premiere?

I think it would be cool.

Also, Daft Punk and their music for the new movie is nice.

Cali Nurse: New reality show REALLY?

Posted by Sean on July 7, 2010

So there is a casting call out for this new TV show titled ‘Cali Nurse’. It’s being dubbed a ‘sexy docu-series’.

Check it out:

The show is seeking real nurses and nursing students, but the casting material makes clear that it is going to focus on damaging stereotypes. The show wants "gorgeous" young females (ages 21-30 only) who will experience "comedy, romance, and fun" and are all about "big hearts" and "dates with McDreamy."

REALLY?!

SERIOUSLY??!!

Just how many levels of disrespect does this cover? I mean because that’s what nurses are all about right?

We don’t actually think on our feet, use critical thinking skills, or dare I say – save lives!

*sigh*

And you wonder why there is such an information-gap and delusional fog of mystery between what really happens in health care and nursing and what we see on TV? The quest continues.

TV’s BIG Dose Of Obesity’s Reality

Posted by Sean on January 12, 2010

Unlike the competitive nature of NBC’s "The Biggest Loser," where producers engage personal trainers and nutritionists to assist contestants in their weight loss, the Cole family appear to be going it alone on the show.

‘Big’ concerns surround new reality show – CNN.com

When I first read this, I thought, “This. Is. Awesome. Finally a ‘real’ dose of losing weight.” I envisioned an obese and overweight family tackling their health problems together in a productive manner, while portraying the tough ‘reality’ of losing weight. Unlike ‘The Biggest Loser’, where you have a dietician, personal trainers, and a finite time to compete and lose weight.

Then I read this article, and watched the above video.

Raised Eyebrow

What… The……

Are they serious? I mean is the cable channel TLC serious? Is the Cole family serious?

I’m all for losing weight. I’m all for having the support of your family. And I’m all for giving a dose of ‘reality’ by showing the viewers how difficult it is to lose weight with the day-to-day healthy decisions that have to be made, and the struggle one has with their individual food choices…etc, etc..

But wholly cow.

In the clip, the Coles — who said they were discovered by producers via Norris Cole’s Web site — are shown eating a voracious amount of pancakes, which mother Tameka says the family can work off later that day during a walk around a local water park. Once there, they indulge in a big, sugary piece of funnel cake.

C’mon people. Seriously?

Anything for the ratings I guess.

Sad.

It’s sad, really.

Is this family actually serious about losing weight? So far it doesn’t look like it.

Nurse Jackie vs. HawthoRNe: The Battle of the TV Show Nurses Continues

Posted by Sean on May 29, 2009

It seems that nurses and nursing are a hot topic finally in the world of television. Apparently there was enough noise made to the powers that be and now for some strange reason people making television shows are interested in hearing the story told from the Nurse’s perspective. (It’s about DAMN time)

Nurse Jackie spawned an interesting debate amongst my fellow nurse-bloggers out there. It is a Showtime television show portraying Jackie, a nurse in the ED (I think?), played by Edie Falco. It had the makings of all the right stuff.

A strong, level-headed, motivated patient advocate that didn’t take no for an answer. She played all the right cards by standing up for her patients, high-octane, low-drag, no frills ER nurse that we all can relate to. Right up to the point where she was snorting some sort of prescription drug and being felt up by her co-workers?At wits end

Kim over at Emergiblog spawned quite the conversation about this new show. I whole heartedly agree with the concept of the show, but cannot get my mind around why they have to have this character be a drug addict of some sort while being a part of the warped-like mindset of the public’s depiction of nurses being some sort of abused sex object.

Now my opinions are of course solely based on the video clips and previews I’ve seen, and yes I’m well aware that it IS just a TV show, not the real thing. The more talk, the more drama, the more the ratings go up. Blah, Blah, Blah.

I still think they could have done a bang-up job without the drug addiction and sexual antics.

Enter HawthoRNe.

This is a TNT production starring Jada Pinkett Smith as the (CNO)Chief Nursing Officer at a hospital manning the everyday nursing front lines. It stretches the truth a tad bit having her portray a CNO that seems to be getting her hands quite dirty on the front lines of the patient bed side (the last time I checked, most of the CNO’s I’ve met and worked for/with don’t even wear scrubs anymore).

Other than the CNO ‘stretch’, it seems to have the ‘goods’.

She’s a nurse who cares passionately about her job, her fellow nurses, and of course her patients. She stands up and fights the good fight wherever and whenever needed against whom ever.

The boon to this show?

There is a 3-5 second snippet (on the video) about a male nurse working along the front lines! (He gets mistaken for a doctor at a patient’s bedside) Raised Eyebrow

It seems that HawthoRNe has one up on Nurse Jackie at first blush simply because there is no illegal or negative activity. I once again am basing my judgment on just the video clips I’ve seen.

I also do not subscribe to Showtime, so I don’t  foresee me watching Nurse Jackie anytime soon.

I however will be setting aside time to take a better look at HawthoRNe.

I’d love to hear your thoughts Nurses.
