You just gotta luv the crazy things on Twitter.

Hee hee.

All of the above mentioned ventures have proven fruitful and enlightening. I have met and continue to interact and ‘chat’ with such a diverse group of individuals! I have come to realize at an alarming rate just how many nurses are out there on the internets!! Not only are they out there.. but they are just like me! They have a thirst for the ‘social’ aspect of the web, they have a passion for this wonderful profession of nursing, and they’re just down right nice people to get to know.

This past year has exploded with nurses and fellow health care professionals out there! It’s mind boggling. I meet or chat with a new medical/health care professional every week – at the very least (it’s usually much, much more).

The collaboration, sharing, and networking is just astonishing. I sometimes have a hard time wrapping my mind around just how big this thing has gotten.. and just how much bigger it will become. The numbers are climbing, and the interest keeps growing. Before you know it nurses and the word social media will become as synonymous as the word blog and internet. (yep.. I’m aiming high).

Recently efforts are being made to corral the conversation. Phil Baumann has created and conducts an awesome ‘virtual’ chat on Twitter called RN Chat. It’s a free-form forum-type thinking-and-action discussion. It of course is geared for RN’s, but other healthcare and medical professionals are welcome to participate. The chat’s are pre-scheduled at designated times. Each chat session is given a couple days to a week notice for everyone to try and attend. The ‘chat’ is began, guided and monitored by Phil himself, who also participates in the dialog.

Phil has taken the time to create a dedicated website that gives all the great details about this awesome community-driven service at RNchat. It also gives a detailed transcript of each previous chat session! (How cool is that?) So if you miss the chat, and wanted to know what was discussed.. you can take a gander. Tucked snuggly within this website is also a great list of RN’s on Twitter! Phil thought of everything.

So I’ve been using Tweetmeme‘s retweet button for a short time now. It seems to have it’s use. I’ve used it on my own blog as well as click it for a retweet on other blog’s I visit. Tweetmeme has developed and tweaked the function of the Tweetmeme button in the short time that I’ve been using it.

Customization has always been the one drawback. Customizing the actual button itself, not just its size.

Enter – BackType .

It seems that BackType is trying it’s best to keep there finger right on top of the pulse of the discussions throughout the internets. They now have their very own ‘Tweetmeme’ button – the Tweetcount button . Same look and feel, except it of course utilizes BackType’s service. The one thing it has that I liked is the customizable button.

So I’m tinkering.

Tinkering with the color.

Figuring out if the Tweetcount button is all it’s cracked up to be. Is the Tweetcount any better or worse than Tweetmeme? If not, then the Tweetcount wins for customization.

Besides I already use BackType for tracking conversations, everything from FriendFeed, Blog Posts and other Web 2.0 interfaces. I just started using the BackType Connect Plugin as well for my blog.

So we’ll see how it goes.

I just can’t decide on what color my Tweetcount button should be.

SPAM

Spam haunts my email inbox on a daily basis. I don’t think I need to give any gory details on how much you and I love SPAM.

Now with Twitter I’m getting SPAM-Slapped not once, but twice. I’m not only getting the infamous link baiters sending me tweets while I’m on Twitter but they also want me to follow them on Twitter. So I get messages like this in my inbox:

Now clearly this is a NO-DUH type of invite. Look closely at the picture. First of all these type of accounts always have some sort of sex-symbol-like female body-enticing avatar urging you to see more of them. Second, take a look at how many people they are following, and how many people are following them. Just a tad bit obvious with this account. They are following hundreds, but less than a handful are following them? Hmm getting more suspicious.

Finally take a look at their number of updates. Once again in this example it is horribly obvious. This has link-bait written all over it. How can you follow that many people and post less than a handful of updates? Hmm. The plot thickens.

So even after all that if you still choose to check out their official profile:

Are you surprised?

In the time it took me to get the notification email to the time it took me to click on their profile link they acquired an additional follower and followed 80 more people!

That’s super-human! How do they do that????

Maybe because ‘they’ aren’t actually human?

Oh by the way, did you see their ONE update? Amazing huh. Ooo there’s a link!? Maybe we should click it and find out more!?

I wouldn’t if I were you.

Ever heard of viruses? Spam? Malware?

Do yourself a favor, when you see invites from the likes of these Twits, just click the block button. Save yourself time, energy and headaches.

I’m just sayin’

Talk amongst yah-selves:

I was wondering if anyone would like to harass the mess out of the developers of TweetDeck to get the minimize function returned. It seems that the minimizing function somehow contributed to previous versions crashing, so they eliminated the option (they say is only temporary).

I really hate that I can’t minimize my TweetDeck to the system tray. In fact, I’m so disgruntled by it that I’m using the application less and less.

Anyone have some ‘pull’ with the TweetDeck folks? Think you could rustle a few feathers?

It seems that Seesmic has spawned a new rivalry. Seesmic launched Seesmic Desktop yesterday that offers updates via Twitter and Facebook. For Tweetdeck users its look, feel and function will be all-too familiar.

It first blush it seems to basically offer all the bells and whistles that Tweetdeck already offers, just with some added flair via cool color changes and and a richer user interface.

As a diehard Tweetdeck fan/user I just couldn’t rationalize its use.
